Pope making two-day visit to Malta

Pope making two-day visit to Malta

The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI will visit Malta in April and meet with the president, Roman Catholic bishops and young people during his two-day stay.
The vaticans said in its announcement Tuesday that the trip will commemorate the 1,950th anniversary of St. Paul's shipwreck. Tradition holds that Paul stayed three months on the Mediterranean island in 60 A.D. after being shipwrecked on the way to Rome, and was treated well by the islanders.
The Vatican has said the issue of migrants might figure in Benedict's pilgrimage because Malta has been embroiled in several disputes with Italy over which country should take in would-be immigrants found adrift at sea.
The pope will also celebrate an open-air Mass during the April 17-18 trip.
