Brazil could reduce gas imports from Bolivia

Brazil is considering a cut in the amount of natural gas it imports from Bolivia and is studying ways to compensate the Andean nation for the reduction.
Gas is Bolivia's main export and Brazil is its main customer.
Brazilian Ambassador Frederico Cezar de Araujo says Brazil is analyzing ways to reduce purchases of Bolivian gas as much as possible without affecting its neighbor. When Brazil cut imports from 2008 to 2009, Bolivia had to find new markets.
Araujo says Brazil will fulfill its commitment to buy gas from Bolivia until the contract expires in 2019. Brazil has to pay a minimum to Bolivia regardless of its needs.
Araujo's comments Friday were reported by Bolivia's official ABI news agency.
