US murder suspect who fled to S. Korea convicted

A man who spent 10 years in South Korea as a fugitive after being charged in a slaying in Philadelphia has been convicted of murder.
A jury found 32-year-old David Nam guilty of second-degree murder Friday. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.
Prosecutors said Nam, then 19, and three juvenile accomplices tried to rob 75-year-old retiree Anthony Schroeder in 1996, but the man came to the door with a gun. Investigators say Nam fatally shot Schroeder through the screen door.
Nam's accomplices pleaded guilty and testified against him. Nam's attorney acknowledged Friday that his client pulled the trigger, but argued it was a panicked reaction, not murder.
Nam jumped bail in 1998 and was captured in South Korea in 2008.
