Judge: No hearings before America's Cup showdown

A New York judge has told America's Cup-holder Alinghi of Switzerland and American challenger BMW Oracle Racing that there won't be a hearing or a decision in their legal spat before their best-of-three series starts on Feb. 8 in Valencia, Spain.
Justice Shirley Kornreich of the New York State Supreme Court told lawyers for the teams in a conference call on Friday that she won't expedite a hearing in BMW Oracle Racing's motion challenging the legality of the sails on the giant catamaran Alinghi 5.
Alinghi officials said this week that they'd forfeit the oldest trophy in international sports if the American team succeeded in getting their sails disqualified.
Regardless of which team wins, the matter could be tied up in court long after the last sail is doused.
