World Bank official seeks help for crisis-poor

The World Bank's managing director has urged global power players to start investing and lending in low-income countries to help the 64 million people plunged into poverty because of the global economic crisis.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said in an interview with The Associated Press that poor countries didn't cause the crisis and don't have the ability to totally bring themselves out of it.
She said Friday they need banks to start lending and investors to start putting money into businesses that create jobs.
Okonjo-Iweala said the worst of the crisis appears over and the World Bank is projecting growth of 2.7 percent this year compared to the 2.2 percent contraction last year.
Still, the nascent recovery is fragile and many uncertainties remain.
