UCI awards 2013 cyclocross worlds to Louisville

The International Cycling Union has awarded hosting rights for the 2013 cyclocross world championships to Louisville, Kentucky.
The UCI's ruling board made the decision Friday on the eve of this year's championship in the off-road racing discipline being held in Tabor, Czech Republic.
UCI president Pat McQuaid says the decision demonstrates the governing body's strategy to globalize cycling.
The United States has never previously staged the cyclocross world event which has run for 60 years.
Louisville will also stage two world championships at masters level in 2012-13.
The races will be held at a permanent cyclocross venue in Eva Bandman Park, near the center of the city.
