Ma, put your hands off the Control Yuan: Liberty Times

Members of the opposition DPP blasted President Ma for interfering with the independent status of the Control Yuan, according to a report of Liberty Times.

“I will gather members of Control Yuan and give them a detailed report about the executive process for the Neihu Line of the Taipei MRT,” said President Ma during his trip in Honduras on 27th(Taipei time).
The move is aimed to ward off any unnecessary controversy over the Constitution, said President Ma.
However, Ma’s remark was criticized by the DPP members. “The Control Yuan is just another branch of KMT. We shouldn’t have high expectation for exertion of the power of control,“ retorted Ke Chien-ming in response to remarks by President Ma,
Ke added that the president enjoys presidential criminal immunity according to the Constitution and cannot be summoned by prosecutors. However, the former president Chen Shui-bian had set a precedent in office over the case of aboriginal subsidy. Ma can clear the cloud of suspicion around him by directly heading for the Control Yuan to explain himself.
“The Control Yuan definitely has the right to summon the president. As a primary administrator for the Wenshan-Neihu Line, the president should face any investigation from independent organizations,” said DPP legislator Chen Ting-fei.
As for Ma’s invitation to members of Control Yuan, Chen noted the Control Yuan will lose its credit as an independent organization for meeting with Ma before beginning of investigation.
