MLS and players extend bargaining to Feb. 12

Major League Soccer and its players agreed to extend bargaining on Thursday in an effort to avoid a work stoppage.
The league's five-year labor contract expires on Sunday and players have feared management would lock them out the following day in what would be MLS' first work stoppage.
Management issued a statement saying the sides have agreed to negotiate through Feb. 12.
