Google's digital book settlement still under fire

A revised legal settlement that would give Google the digital rights to millions of books remains under fire from rivals and other critics trying to persuade a judge to reject the agreement.
The opposition mounted its latest attacks Thursday, the deadline for filing objections with U.S. District Judge Denny Chin in New York.
The critics contend Google's $125 million settlement of a class action settlement with U.S. publishers and authors would thwart competition and drive up prices in the growing electronic book market.
The settlement was revised in November, nearly two months after the U.S. Department of Justice warned it would probably break antitrust and copyright laws. The government has until Feb. 4 to provide its opinion about the revisions.
