3 people in Serbia freeze to death in cold snap

Three people have frozen to death in Serbia as the country endures extremely low temperatures and heavy snowfall, police said Thursday.
Bad weather also hampered traffic throughout the Balkan republic, whose roads were covered with snow and ice.
Temperatures in Serbia sunk to -18 C (0 F) with strong winds in some areas.
Serbia's state power company has warned that electricity consumption has increased dramatically, burdening the power grid. Many in Serbia rely on electricity for heating.
The first two deaths were reported near the central Serbian town of Valjevo, police said. The bodies of two men were found in the snow.
The third death was reported later Thursday in the eastern town of Zajecar where a man was found nearly frozen outside his house and died later in the hospital.
