Malaysia Airlines expresses gratitude for travel agents' contribution

Malaysia Airlines recently held a thank-you dinner at the Westin Taipei to express its gratitude for the contribution travel agencies have made to its operations. The carrier also awarded prizes to eleven travel agents during the event.
Richmond International Travel and Tours Company took first place in the 2009 Mega Award held by Malaysia Airlines, while Southeast Travel Service and Comfort Travel Service finished second and third. Other travel agencies on the list included Friendship Travel Service, Visa International Travel Service, Lion Travel Service, See Mark Travel Service, EZ Travel Company, American Express International (Taiwan), Fantast Travel Service and Phoenix Tours International.
Dignitaries present at the dinner included YBhg Dato' Abdullah Mohd Salleh, President of Malaysia Friendship and Trade Centre, Taipei; A.K. Rahmat Kassim, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia; and Yap Kiang Thiam, Manager of North Asia at Malaysia Airlines.
"2009 was a challenging year for us because spiraling fuel prices, the economic slump and the flu A(H1N1) have impacted the tourism market and the carrier sector," said Yap.
Despite uncertainties in the economic outlook for in 2010, Malaysia Airlines has ordered the Airbus A380 superjumbo to provide five-star service for its passengers. The aircraft company's new goal is to demonstrate a true spirit of eco-consciousness and become Asia's youngest fleet by 2016. The carrier has pledged to provide travel agents with more incentives and competitive fares to help stimulate growth in sales revenues in 2010.
