Over-the-counter market booming in 2009

Taipei, Jan. 4 (CNA) The market capitalization of over-the-counter shares rose by 147.92 percent to reach NT$1.914 trillion (US$59.26 million) in 2009, GreTai Securities Market said Monday.
The market's benchmark index also rose dramatically. Its close of 150.05 on the last day of 2009, which was 133.11 percent higher than the index's 2008 close of 64.37.
Daily transaction volume averaged NT$20.872 billion, up 58.18 percent from the year earlier average volume of NT$13.19 billion.
Single day turnover reached a high of NT$47.66 billion on Dec. 10, 2009, the single-day highest since August 2007.
GreTai Securities Market has actively promoted the listing of premium and innovative businesses on the over-the-counter market in recent years and in 2009 made seven presentations on its services in China, the west coast of the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, calling on 103 potential customers there and at home to drum up interest in listing in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, the number of warrants reached 1,116 in 2009, setting a record in a single year since the market for warrant transactions opened in 2003.
