Washington Times slashes staff; sports section out

The Washington Times will slash newsroom staff by more than 40 percent and eliminate its sports section as it revamps to focus on politics, business and investigative reporting.
The newspaper's Thursday edition announced the layoffs and said the last sports section would appear Friday. Among those let go was the newsroom leader, Managing Editor David Jones.
A new print edition will be launched Monday.
The newspaper announced several management changes, though it is not clear who will oversee the newsroom operation.
The paper was founded in 1982 by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, leader of the Unification Church.
