Stocks point to mixed open ahead of jobs figures

Stocks are pointing to a mixed opening ahead of a report on employment and as investors look to wrap up a strong year for the market.
Trading is expected to be quiet Thursday as investors look to 2010. The benchmark Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 24.7 percent for the year, the strongest performance since 2003.
Investors expect a government unemployment report will show that the number of newly laid-off workers rose by 8,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 460,000, according to economists surveyed by Thomson Reuters.
Dow Jones industrials futures are up 10, or 0.1 percent, at 10,500. S&P 500 index futures are up 1.60, or 0.1 percent, to 1,123.70, while Nasdaq 100 index futures are down 0.50, or less than 0.1 percent, at 1,876.25.
