Colombia paramilitary detained in reporter's death

Colombian prosecutors have ordered the preventative detention of a paramilitary commander in the slaying of a journalist seven years ago.
Gunmen killed Luis Eduardo Alfonso Parada outside his office in eastern Arauca state in 2003. Alfonso worked for Radio Meridiano-70 and the Bogota-based newspaper El Tiempo. He had reported on alleged corruption and received death threats.
Gustavo Reyes, head of the Prosecutors' Office unit investigating attacks on journalists, says Jose Ruben Pena Tobon acknowledged commanding the right-wing paramilitary bloc that killed Alfonso.
Reyes said Wednesday that Pena hasn't said why the journalist was killed.
In Colombia, preventative detention is ordered when sufficient evidence links a suspect to a crime.
