OK, Christmas is over. Time to clean up. Here are some green New Year's resolutions to get you started:
I/We will:
n Turn all ceiling fans counter-clockwise in the summer and clockwise in the winter.
n Unplug my cell phone charger unless the phone is charging.
n Wash clothes in cold water.
n Check car tires regularly for proper air pressure.
n Never allow my vehicle to idle.
n Use caulk or weather stripping to reduce air leaks in my home or business.
n Set water heater temperature to 120 degrees.
n Unplug all appliances and electronics when not in use.
n Set the dishwasher for air dry instead of heat dry.
n Install a programmable thermostat.
n Change all light bulbs to Energy Star-rated compact fluorescent light bulbs and properly dispose of all burned-out CFLs.
n Schedule an energy audit from my utility company.
n Replace old appliances with those rated by Energy Star.
n Clean all HVAC filters once a month during peak heating/cooling seasons.
n Use energy-efficient LED holiday lights for all holiday decorations.
n Consider gov't incentive programs to help with home energy efficiency.
