3D TV expected to steal spotlight in electronics market in 2010

Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Three-dimensional television (3D TV) is expected to steal the spotlight in the world's consumer electronics market in 2010, when 3D technology will break into households, the Topology Research Institute (TRI) forecast Wednesday.
According to the TRI, 3D TV will be showcased along with tablet PCs, Google phones, pico projectors and simple mobile computers as the five leading products at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, slated for Jan. 7-10 in Las Vegas.
With international TV manufacturers, including Sony, having announced their plans to launch 3D TV in the second half of 2010, 3D viewing will no longer be limited to movie theaters but will make its way into the living rooms of consumers, the TRI said.
The institute predicted that the trend will bring lucrative commercial opportunities for Taiwan's display panel, polarizer and blue-ray player manufacturers.
Another hot item in 2010 will be the simple mobile computer, such as the mobile Internet device (MID) and the Smartbook, the TRI said.
Though bearing different names, these products share several similarities: a price tag of no more than US$300, a size that is slightly larger than a mobile phone, and the ability to be connected to the Internet at any time, according to the research institute.
