UN rights chief: stop excessive violence in Iran

The U.N.'s human rights chief says she is shocked by the recent violence in Iran and has urged the government to keep security forces from using excessive force.
U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay says the information available indicates that security forces and pro-government Basij militiamen have used excessive violence against anti-government protesters.
At least eight people have died during demonstrations this week and top opposition figures have been arrested in the worst unrest since the aftermath of June's disputed presidential election.
Pillay said Wednesday she is "shocked by the upsurge in deaths, injuries and arrests."
She says people have the right to peacefully protest without being beaten and thrown into jail.
