Stocks edge higher at open following housing data

U.S. stocks are extending their gains into a seventh day after a report showed a slight rise in home prices.
Standard & Poor's/Case-Shiller says its home price index increased for a fifth straight month in October, edging up 0.4 percent. But it's down 7.3 percent compared with October of last year, roughly in line with what analysts expected.
Later Tuesday morning, the Conference Board will release its consumer confidence index for December.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 2.3 percent in the past six days amid improving economic data.
In early trading, the Dow Jones industrial average is up 25 at 10,572. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 2 at 1,130, while the Nasdaq composite index is up 3 at 2,294.
