Slovenia's Jerman wins Bormio downhill

Andrej Jerman of Slovenia won the knee-jarring World Cup downhill Tuesday on the Stelvio course.
Jerman covered the 3.27-kilometer (2.03-mile) layout in 2 minutes, 0.32 seconds. Mario Scheiber of Austria crossed second, 0.44 seconds behind, but risked being disqualified for irregular ski boots.
Didier Defago of Switzerland was third, 0.53 seconds back and pre-race favorite Michael Walchhofer of Austria placed fourth, 1.03 behind.
After a break for New Year's, the men's circuit resumes Jan. 6 with a slalom in Zagreb, Croatia.
