Obama praises Iran protesters, hits govt reaction

President Barack Obama is praising "the courage and the conviction of the Iranian people" while condemning Iran's Islamic government for attacking demonstrators with "the iron fist of brutality."
Speaking briefly after remarks Monday about an abortive Christmastime terror attack against a U.S. airliner, Obama says the Iranian troubles are caused by leaders' decision "to govern through fear and tyranny" but said that will not force the people's aspirations to go away.
He demanded "the immediate release of all who have been unjustly detained within Iran" and promised that the United States would "continue to bear witness to the extraordinary events that are taking place there."
