Temperature to fall to 10 degrees in north this weekend

Taipei, Dec. 16 (CNA) A cold air mass from China sent temperatures falling through much of Taiwan Wednesday and could further push the mercury down to below 10 degrees Celsius in northern and central Taiwan this coming weekend, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
The cold air mass will envelop Taiwan completely beginning Thursday, making the weather noticeably colder, and could linger over Taiwan until next week, a CWB forecaster said,.
On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to be around 18 degrees in the north and northeast -- with lows of around 15-16 degrees -- 22-23 degrees in central and eastern Taiwan, and 24-25 degrees in the south and southeast.
The cold air mass brought snow to Taiwan's highest mountain, Yushan, early Wednesday morning. Around 1.5 centimeters of snow had accumulated on the 3,952-meter peak, also known as Jade Mountain, as of 8 a.m.
Hsieh Hsin-tien, a technician at the CWB's Yushan station, said the temperature in mountain areas around Yushan fell below freezing to minus 1.8 degrees in the early hours of the day but had climbed to minus 0.7 degrees at around 7:30 a.m.
