US security adviser in Moscow nuclear arms talks

U.S. National Security Adviser James Jones is in talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on reducing the nuclear arsenals of the former Cold War adversaries.
Jones is also set to meet his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, as part of a brief visit to Moscow for talks Thursday that may also touch on the Iran issue.
Time is pressing for U.S. and Russian officials to negotiate an arms reduction treaty to replace the acting one signed in 1991, which expires in a little over a month.
President Barack Obama and President Dmitry Medvedev agreed at a summer summit in Moscow to cut the number of nuclear warheads each possesses to between 1,500 and 1,675 within seven years.
