Taipei, Oct. 29 (CNA) A Chinese official in charge of digital publishing products is expected to visit Taiwan in November, as the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) is seeking to establish contact with Chinese authorities in the field to promote market exploration cooperation.
MOEA sources said Wednesday that the visit by Kou Xiaowei, deputy director of the Digital and Online Publishing Products Department of China's General Administration of Press and Publication, will initiate cross-strait cooperation in exploring the business potential of digital content publication.
Eyeing China's huge market potential, the MOEA expects that digital content publication sectors on both sides of the strait will develop common standards. The ministry has made cooperation in this sector a priority in its cross-strait bridge-building projects.
The MOEA plans to invest NT$1.2 billion (US$37.5 million) in the next five years in the electronic book industry and is expecting the digital content industry's production value to reach NT$100 billion by 2013, according to the sources.
