Mazda slumps to first half loss as sales drop

Mazda Motor Corp. posted a net loss of 20.8 billion yen ($230 million) for the April-September quarter due to weak global sales and the strong yen's erosion of foreign income.
That's a reversal from the 29.5 billion yen net profit it announced for the same period a year earlier.
Sales for Japan's fourth-biggest automaker during the six months dropped 37 percent from a year earlier to 990.3 billion yen.
Mazda on Thursday also narrowed its forecast for full year losses, projecting a net loss of 17 billion yen instead of 26 billion yen.
