Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region

Typhoon Mirinae strengthened into a Category 2 storm as it moved westward from the Marina Islands toward the Philippines.
This storm is expected to maintain its strength until it reaches the northern Philippines by Friday evening.
Expect strong winds with gusts up to 110 mph (177 kph) with periods of strong downpours. Dangerous surf will continue with wave heights up to 27 feet (8.2 meters).
To the north, active weather will return to China on Friday. A low pressure system will develop along the border with Mongolia and create a cold front that will extend from Xi'an to Beijing, kicking up widespread scattered showers throughout the day.
By evening, the system will reach into the Yellow Sea and is expected to produce scattered thunderstorms. Expect scattered showers in Beijing.
To the east, high pressure will linger over the Sea of Japan and stretch into eastern China.
This will allow for mild weather with sunny skies over Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong.
In Australia, high pressure will hover over the country and allow for warm and dry conditions to persist. However, a high pressure system to the south will continue pushing moisture over New South Wales and Victoria. Sydney will start to dry out as scattered showers remain just to the south.
