LA police link man to Israeli team, Chivas thefts

Los Angeles police are searching for a man they say stole $26,000 cash and jewelry from an Israeli basketball team, and scammed his way into two downtown hotels to steal from Chivas USA soccer players and a salsa music troupe.
Police said Wednesday a witness saw the unidentified man enter Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv's locker room at Staples Center during an exhibition game Oct. 20 with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Detectives studying surveillance footage noticed the man resembled a suspect in other thefts.
Police say a man on Aug. 29 convinced a desk clerk at the Wilshire Grand Los Angeles he was part of a salsa group, and stole $9,000 from their rooms. The man, wearing a Chivas soccer jersey, on Sept. 22 convinced a clerk at a nearby Marriott to allow him in team's rooms, and stole $10,000.
