Indonesian police foil human traffickers

Indonesian police have foiled an attempt to smuggle 92 Afghan and Iranian migrants to Australia, local media reported Wednesday.
Anom Wibowo, a senior intelligence officer at the East Java Police, said three suspected Indonesian smugglers and three Iranians were arrested in the case.
He told the official Antara news agency that the suspects along with the immigrants were taken to Jakarta for further investigation.
Police had trailed the three's car and two buses carrying the migrants since they left the hillside region of Puncak in West Java on Saturday, the report said.
The Detik.com news portal reported that two women and four children were among the migrants, who have documents from the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. It said they were to have been transported to nearby Madura island, before being smuggled using fishing boats.
Indonesia is a popular transit point for migrants from war-ravaged countries seeking to reach Australia.
