Afghanistan reports 1st swine flu death

Afghanistan's health ministry said Wednesday that the country has had its first death from swine flu, while China reported its fourth death from the virus.
Afghan health ministry spokesman Ahmad Farid Raaid said a 35-year-old engineer was infected with the virus last week, along with three family members. It was unclear how the man contracted the virus.
Raaid said the man was taken to a private hospital in Kabul and died Wednesday.
In China, state media said a Beijing college student is the country's fourth swine flu fatality.
The victim, a student at the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, died Tuesday, the official Xinhua News Agency reported, citing local health authorities.
The report comes as China moves aggressively to vaccinate vulnerable groups against swine flu. The Health Ministry has said a total of 35,664 cases have been reported as of Monday.
Authorities say the virus is spreading from cities into the vast countryside where health care resources are far more limited, despite strict quarantines and stringent fever checks at airports and outside schools, housing complexes and public buildings.
