Lothar Matthaeus declines job in Argentina

Former Germany great Lothar Matthaeus says he has called off negotiations to become coach of Racing Club in Argentina.
Writing on his Web page, the former Germany captain says he had not traveled to Argentina and that talks with Racing Club have been called for "due to various reasons." He gave no other details.
Bild newspaper says Matthaeus sent a text message overnight declining the offer.
The newspaper quotes Juan Cobian, whom it describes as an "adviser" involved in negotiations between the former Germany captain and the Argentine club.
The 48-year-old Matthaeus played in five World Cups, led Germany to the title in 1990 and was FIFA's player of the year in 1991.
