UN: Text message food vouchers to Iraqi refugees

A U.N. food agency says Iraqi refugees living in Syria will receive vouchers for food aid through mobile phone text messages.
The Rome-based World Food Program said Tuesday that about 1,000 Iraqi refugee families living in Damascus will receive a text message on their cell phones that will serve as a voucher to buy food at selected shops.
The agency said most of the refugees targeted in the project are middle-class people without jobs who don't have enough money to buy food, even though they have cell phones.
The vouchers can be used to obtain rice, flour, lentils, oil, canned fish, cheese and eggs.
