EU ministers back Afghan aid revamp

EU foreign ministers have given their backing to a revamp of the European Union's civilian aid strategy in Afghanistan.
Sweden's Foreign Minister Carl Bildt says the 27-nation bloc's existing aid plans are not working and need better coordination and more money. The ministers adoped the new plan Tuesday.
The strategy calls for better coordination of spending and holding Afghan officials to account in the use of aid money. The EU Commission says it will spend up to an extra ⁈llion ($300 million) in the coming months for Afghanistan, adding to the $1 billion a year the bloc spends as a whole in aid to bolster the Afghan government.
