Guinea's leader to set up independent inquiry

Guinea's leader says there will be an independent commission set up to investigate why troops opened fire on protesters at a pro-democracy rally.
Capt. Moussa "Dadis" Camara, who seized power in a coup nine months ago, says the 31-member commission will include seven judges from the Justice Ministry.
Camara said in an interview late Wednesday with state television that he is responding to calls by the international community, political opposition and local groups for the arrest and prosecution of the alleged perpetrators.
A human rights group says 157 people were killed and more than 1,000 wounded on Sept. 28 when soldiers opened fire at 50,000 people at the national stadium. The government put the death toll at 57.
