EU urges parties to stop fighting in Yemen

The EU has urged all parties in Yemen to stop fighting and negotiate a peace settlement.
The Swedish EU presidency said in a statement late Wednesday it is concerned by the escalation of fighting around Saada causing civilian casualties and the impact of the conflict spreading further.
It called on the parties to respect human rights, allow civilians to escape the conflict and give access to the United Nations, help organizations and emergency medical relief.
The U.N. and the Red Cross warned Tuesday about an escalating conflict in Yemen between government forces and Shiite rebels that has driven 120,000 people from their homes. The fighting has raised fears that increased lawlessness could provide cover for al-Qaida militants.
