Sri Lanka 62-1 vs. New Zealand

New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori edged closer to joining an elite allrounders' club as Sri Lanka finished Wednesday's opening session of the first cricket test on 62-1.
Vettori claimed the sole wicket of the session, having opener Tharanga Paranavitana (9) caught at slip by Ross Taylor.
The Black Caps captain, playing his 94th test, needed just one more wicket to become only the eighth player to score more than test 3,000 runs and take 300 wickets. He already has 3,329 runs.
At lunch, Tillakaratne Dilshan remained not out on 26 with skipper Kumar Sangakkara on 16.
Other players to have reached the 3,000-300 milestone were Kapil Dev (India), Richard Hadlee (New Zealand), Ian Botham (England), Imran Khan (Pakistan), Shane Warne (Australia), Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka) and Shaun Pollock (South Africa).
Sri Lanka is aiming to sweep the two-match series 2-0 after a 202-run win in the first test in Galle last week.
The hosts made three changes: strike bowler Nuwan Kulasekera, spinner Ajantha Mendis and Anjelo Mathews were rested, replaced by Dammika Prasad, Rangana Herath and Chamara Kapugedera.
New Zealand was unchanged.
