Mourning Ceremony for Typhoon Morakot victims set for Sept. 7: official

Kaohsiung, Aug. 26 (CNA) The Kaohsiung Arena has been designated as the venue of a national mourning ceremony set to be held on Sept. 7 for the victims of Typhoon Morakot, a Cabinet official said Wednesday.
The site, in southern Taiwan's largest city, has been selected because the southern part of the country was hit hardest by the floods and landslides caused by the typhoon, and holding the ceremony there will facilitate the participation of bereaved families, said the official, who declined to be named.
In preparation for the ceremony, officials from various agencies under the Cabinet inspected the arena in the morning.
Also Wednesday, Premier Liu Chao-shiuan hosted a meeting in the southern Taiwan office of the Cabinet's post-Typhoon Morakot reconstruction committee, located in Cishan, Kaohsiung County, to discuss measures to more effectively deliver reconstruction resources to disaster areas.
As of Tuesday, confirmed fatalities from the disaster had reached 461, with 192 reported missing and 46 injured, according to the Central Emergency Operation Center.
