Bergessio set to join Saint-Etienne

Argentina striker Gonzalo Bergessio will sign a four-year contract with Saint-Etienne, the French club said on Tuesday.
Before flying back from Argentina, Saint-Etienne sporting director Damien Comolli said the San Lorenzo player was the club's first choice for a deal.
Brazilian striker Diego Tardelli from Atletico Mineiro had also been linked to a move to the club.
"We were in Argentina for several days to finalize the deal confidentially because many clubs wanted to hire Gonzalo," Comolli said on the Saint-Etienne Web site. "This is excellent news for the club."
The 25-year-old Bergessio, who already passed his medical, is Saint-Etienne's second signing in less than a week after luring Ivory Coast striker Boubacar Sanogo from Werder Bremen. The club is currently next-to-last in the French league after losing its first three games this season.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Bergessio's good performances with San Lorenzo caught Diego Maradona's eye and the Argentina coach called him for several games.
