Paraguay names team for World Cup qualifiers

Paraguay will be without top forward Roque Santa Cruz for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Argentina.
Coach Gerardo Martino named the 25-man roster on Tuesday, acknowledging the longtime absence of Santa Cruz would continue. He's been out for nine months following right knee injury.
"I think Roque is very good physically," Martino said. "I know he is doing special training at Manchester City. But I don't want to risk him in two key games for us."
Brazil leads the South American World Cup qualifying with 27 points followed by Chile (26), Paraguay (24) and Argentina (22). They are followed by Ecuador (20) and Uruguay (18). The top four teams in the group advance automatically to South Africa. No. 5 faces a playoff with No. 4 from the North and Central American and Caribbean region for another berth.
Paraguay has consecutive home games on Sept. 5 against Bolivia, and on Sept. 9 versus Argentina. Then, Paraguay is away on Oct. 10 at Venezuela, and wraps up qualifying at home against Colombia on Oct. 13.
