NATO: Greece-Turkey rift hindering Afghan training

NATO's chief says differences between Greece and Turkey are hindering police training in Afghanistan and anti-piracy patrols off the Somali coast.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen says in a blog posted Tuesday that this illustrates how the problems between NATO allies Greece and Turkey have spread far beyond those two countries.
The two nations have been at odds for years over the divided island country of Cyprus.
Turkey has been frustrated in its attempts to join the European Union. It therefore does not allow formal relations between NATO and the EU, making it impossible for NATO to provide protection for EU trainers in Afghanistan.
Cooperation also has been difficult between the NATO and EU anti-piracy flotillas operating in the Gulf of Aden.
