Taiwan share prices close 0.42 percent lower

Taiwan share prices closed 0.42 percent lower yesterday on profit-taking following a rally in the previous session, dealers said.
The weighted index dropped 28.84 points to 6,809.41 on turnover of NT$84.64 billion (US$2.57 billion).
Losers outnumbered gainers 1,376 to 856, while 185 stocks remained unchanged.
A total of 27 shares rose to their daily 7.0 percent limit, against 12 limit-down.
"After yesterday's rally sparked by Wall Street's gains, a sell-off emerged on profit-taking," said Mars Hsu of Grand Cathay Securities
Hsu said that if trading remains thin, the market may continue to consolidate this week.
"The performance of international markets will be the biggest influence on the Taiwan market this week," he said, adding that the U.S. market may pull back after its recent gains.
Financials fell 1.93 percent, textiles dropped 1.89 percent, plastics was 0.96 percent lower and electronics edged down 0.05 percent. Chemicals was 0.78 percent firmer.
Quanta Computer, the world's largest contract notebook computer manufacturer, was limit-up at 67.1 on improved profit in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter.
Rival Wistron Corp closed 6.3 percent higher at 59.4 on reports that it had received orders worth US$1 billion from Chinese computer maker Lenovo.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co was 0.51 percent firmer to 58.7 while United Microelectronics Corp was up 0.74 percent to 13.65.
