Poland's unemployment up slightly to 10.8 percent

Poland's jobless rate rose slightly to 10.8 percent in July from 10.7 percent the month before, helped by a seasonal increase in demand for manual labor, the government said Tuesday.
The Central Statistical Office said 1.67 million of the nation's 38 million residents were out of a job at the end of July, compared to 1.66 million jobless in May.
July is the first month since March that the unemployment has risen. In March it hit a high of 11.2 percent due to the global financial crisis.
Since then it has been inching down due to a seasonal increase in farming, construction and forestry jobs.
Before the worst of the financial crisis, in October, the jobless rate was 8.8 percent.
