Barnes, Sharpe ruled out; Elsom, O'Connor doubtful

Center Berrick Barnes and lock Nathan Sharpe have been ruled out of Australia's Tri-Nations rugby test against South Africa on the weekend, while backrower Rocky Elsom and teenage fullback James O'Connor are doubtful starters.
Barnes injured his neck and sustained a concussion in the first half of last weekend's 19-18 loss to New Zealand at Sydney, while Sharpe damaged his shoulder in what was the Wallabies' third consecutive loss in the Tri-Nations.
The injuries forced coach Robbie Deans to delay naming his Wallabies lineup for the Springboks match until Thursday.
South Africa leads the competition with three straight wins on home soil and is embarking on a three-match road trip. Australia has only two points from three starts and needs to win its remaining three matches and rely on other results going its way to have any chance of winning the Tri-Nations title.
Deans said he was waiting to see how Elsom and O'Connor recovered before announcing his squad after practice on Thursday.
