Revamped St. Croix lockup gets 100 inmates

The U.S. Virgin Islands says 100 inmates from the territory have been returned to a St. Croix lockup after authorities enhanced security and staffing at the prison.
The local inmates were transferred to a Virginia facility last year after a prison break compromised the security of the Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
But Attorney General Vincent F. Frazer says correctional officials have hired more guards and ramped up security at Golden Grove to "enable the bureau to house and safeguard the Virgin Islands' own prisoners right here at home."
Frazer initially ordered the transfers because of concerns raised by the Sept. 20, 2008 escape by three prisoners.
The inmates returned Saturday afternoon.
