Most-wanted list for Xinjiang riots

China released a most-wanted list yesterday of 15 people it is seeking for their alleged roles in the worst ethnic violence to hit the country in decades. The government says 197 people died and more than 1,700 were wounded in the riots that broke out earlier this month in the western region of Xinjiang between minority Muslim Uighurs and majority Han Chinese. The government said more than 1,600 people suspected of being involved in the riots have been detained, and the official Xinhua News Agency said the Urumqi Public Security Bureau issued a notice yesterday with the names and photos of 15 more. All but one of the names on the list appeared to be Uighur.
