RoboCup contest

Taiwan has emerged as a big winner in the 2009 RoboCupJunior, an annual global robotics contest for young students, education sources said yesterday.
The Taiwanese delegation fielded nine teams in this year's competition, held in the Austrian city of Graz July 1-5, according to the sources.
"Taiwanese contestants captured four awards, including the championship for the 14-year-old age group," said Sung Teh-chen, a teacher who headed the Taiwanese delegation.
Sung said the project-oriented educational robotics competition, involving 2,300 young students from 44 countries and featuring more than 2,000 robot entries, is aimed at providing a hands-on, scaffolded environment in which learners can grow by expanding their knowledge of, sparking their curiosity about and increasing their comfort with, technology.
This year's contest focused on three challenges of soccer, rescue and dance, said Sung.
A team called "48Hitman, " which was formed by Taiwanese teenagers Yeh Wei-ting and Cheng Yo-hao, defeated its rival from China in the final to win the title in the age-14 category, Sung continued.
