A court in Tainan yesterday reduced three death sentences for a man who killed two wives and three sons to a 20-year prison sentence because he had admitted the murders to police.

The man, Chen Jui-chin, originally received three death sentences for the murders, allegedly committed to obtain life insurance payments.

In the latest verdict, the court said Chen admitted to killing two wives. Police were still investigating the deaths of his three sons. Prosecutors said they would appeal the ruling.
