Police in Greece say soccer fans rioted in central Athens following a court decision over the violent death of a fan last year. The clashes broke out amid unrelated but ongoing violence staged by high school students and other protesters over the fatal police shooting of a teenage boy.
A court Friday sentenced one man to life in prison and two others to 10 years over the murder of a 25 year-old fan during major clashes last year between fans from rival soccer clubs Panathinaikos and Olympiakos.
Panathinaikos fans, angry at the acquittals, hurls rocks and a petrol bomb at the Greek Police headquarters. Police responded with tear gas.
