Presidential Office spokesman Wang Yu-chi (王郁琦) said yesterday that there are no plans at this stage to carry out a major Cabinet reshuffle.

Wang's remarks came after the Chinese-language United Daily News quoted former Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Shen Fu-hsiung (沈富雄) as suggesting a day earlier that President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) should seriously consider reshuffling the Cabinet by early October at the latest "to save himself and save Taiwan" amid a sliding economy.

The spokesman said that the Presidential Office treats the opinions of all sectors of society seriously and that the government's most important missions at present are uniting popular sentiment and propping up a sluggish economy.

He noted that the Executive Yuan is currently mapping out various measures to reinvigorate the faltering economy and that these measures will be introduced soon.

Shen was quoted as saying in early July\ that "there are a lot of not so capable, but nice, people" in the Presidential Office and Executive Yuan.
