"Forêt Debussy," which features Gwei Lun-mei as the female lead, will hit theaters on Oct. 28.
According to a promotional web page for the movie, Forest Debussy is about a mother and a daughter who live an isolated quiet life deep in the mountains. The daughter looks lean and fragile and seems unresponsive toward her surroundings, confining herself in her own wretched world, while the mother is like a guardian angel who always protects her and takes care of everything, the synopsis of the movie on the web page says.
Before living in seclusion, the daughter was a pianist who lost her husband and son. The mother decided to take her away and hid her in the mountains where no one could ever find them, believing it is the only possible way for her daughter to survive, the synopsis says. Nevertheless, they have to face nothing but themselves ever since, as well as to confront the endless forest, it says.
Director Kuo Cheng-chui told a press conference on Monday that the film crew often lost their way in forests and mountain areas of Taiwan while surveying locations for the movie.
Lu Yi-ching, who acted as the mother, was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in the 2016 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival for her role in Forêt Debussy.
Lu said Chi Po-lin's documentary "Beyond Beauty – Taiwan from Above" takes audience above Taiwan, but Forêt Debussy takes audience into Taiwan.
As for the movie's box office prospects, Gwei said she didn’t care how this movie will sell or what audiences like because she felt satisfied with having played the role in the movie and anything else is an extra bonus to her.
