TRA Changhua station to set up multilingual services

To provide a new immigrant-friendly train route information service, TRA (Taiwan Railways Administration) Changhua station is playing a leading role by bringing up a multilingual signboard right next to the ticket machine. New immigrants will no longer have trouble finding the right platform or buying tickets.

TRA Changhua station is setting up 10 signboards with four languages on them, which include English, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai. This is also the very first foreign-language information service of TRA in the country.

Shao Hung-sung, the station master of Changhua station, indicated that the current population of migrant workers in Taiwan is around 600,000, as the number of new immigrants is around 500,000. Both migrant workers and new immigrants in Taiwan mostly come from Southeast Asian countries, and might encounter language barriers while buying tickets at rail stations. Besides setting up the multilingual signboards, Changhua station also recruited two Vietnamese part-time staff, offering the new immigrants an information consulting service and Vietnamese broadcasting service.
